Dear Ms. Alikhani,
My name is Hasibul Hasan and I am a freshman in college trying to get my Bachelors in
Computer Science. I have always considered myself to be a problem solver but I was indecisive
about choosing a career. High school was the first time I thought about being an engineer. I was
at Cornell where I was assigned a small task of making a drone fly. I had to take into account the
hardware and electrical aspect of making the drone fly. After much effort and the help of a
mentor, the drone was successful. After that small workshop, I realized exactly how much I
enjoyed being an engineer. Then after three years of taking computer science classes in high
school, I realized I will continue to pursue this major throughout college.
High school played a crucial role in my development as a computer science major. In high
school, I was not always satisfied with my results, so I always worked a bit harder. I put in extra
hours to learn the different coding languages until I was fluent. Now I have intermediate skills in
HTML, CSS, Snap and low level skills in Java and JavaScript. These skills along with a 3.7 and
up overall GPA in mathematics are very difficult to accomplish. However I have aced those
classes with flying colors. The most challenging aspect was going to Brooklyn Technical H.S.
and competing with intelligent students from all over New York City. Aside from the skills and
accomplishments, pursing CS led me to be professional, patient and meticulous. These are all
important aspects of becoming a good engineer.
Computer science is more than a job to me. I have grown more and more interested by joining
clubs since high school and attending local hackathons. These hackathons are events where
students compete in groups to create projects. Attending the events made me realize the endless
potential of computer science. I plan to combine a CS major with three other minors in math,
mechanical and electrical. This combination of major and minor will give me endless
possibilities to help do any type of job in the engineering field after I graduate. I am inspired by
startup companies like Airbnb and Uber that started with a simple concept and went big. I would
also like to start my own startup soon and get involved in doing research in artificial intelligence.
I have always been appalled by the negligence of engineers to work harder for solutions to help
our environment. That’s why I would like to create a startup around creating some sort of robot/
artificial intelligent beings to help prevent and reduce the growth of environmental problems
such as pollution. Places like Gwalior, India and Zabol, Iran are in extreme need of solutions to
reduce pollution. Hopefully my company will find solutions to far worst environment problems.
With good work ethic and passion for computer science I will be successful enough create an
actual difference.
I have also attached a copy of my resume detailing my experiences and personal projects.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best Regards,
Hasibul Hasan
